HAVE YOU SEEN IT? I’M FEATURED IN THIS MONTH’S ISSUE OF Kids Rooms, a Better Homes and Gardens Special Publication! It’s my second magazine feature already this year (and stay tuned–there are more to come)! I’m incredibly grateful for the recognition my design work is bringing! If you’d like to talk with me about a children’s bedroom or playroom–or any other design project you have in mind–see the link at the bottom of this post for a no-obligation call and a FREE GIFT offer.
Dallas Interior Design Magazine Feature Vintage Flea Market Style
My creative juices really get flowing when I imagine kids’ rooms. I mean, really–it’s a parent’s AND a kid’s dream, right? One room in your home where the kids can imagine, create, and wreak their own special playful havoc. Where you can corral all the art supplies and the kid books and the Legos. A hangout space for friends that is NOT the kitchen (though the kids will still regularly swoop through the kitchen like locusts and eat everything in sight–yes, even those bakery cookies you thought you’d hidden so carefully in the pantry).
Well, if you have the room, I have the ideas! Let me show you!
BEFORE:
Game room before
This poor, tired game room was the former owner’s idea of recreation, but the current young family–not so much. It took a new vision that included this family’s interests. They wanted a movie-watching and gaming spot, sure, but they were just as likely to pick up their instruments and jam. So room for music was definitely on the list. What activities would you want YOUR family’s playroom to accommodate?

Maybe a little pool or ping pong? And space for the spectators to hang out and watch? Yep. And, of course, a playroom should have a playful personality, right? So that’s where the whimsical decor and colorful maps came in.

If your kids are younger, their spaces can be just as fun, but they need to be suited to their size and interests. And you can really have some fun with color, as we did in Paula’s playroom for her grandkids.
BEFORE:
Playroom before
Paula’s a pretty savvy decorator, but she was just STUCK. She wanted to re-imagine this den into a fun, colorful bedroom/playroom for her young grandchildren, but couldn’t get a clear vision of how to incorporate fire trucks and princesses in the same room!
AFTER:
Firetruck bed and princess DIY bed
So with ingenuity, bold color and a sweet uncle who did some spectacular crafting of the fantasy beds, I helped Paula go from stuck to stylish in this grandkid room of her dreams!
