Courtney Warren is a Texas-based interior designer whose work has been featured in Real Simple, Better Homes & Gardens, Good Housekeeping, Apartment Therapy, and Today.com. She is a frequent consultant on Fox 4 TV’s Good Day program in Dallas, was ranked in the top 3 percent of interior designers in the US by Houzz.com, and starred in the Dallas episode of TLC’sFour Houses. She delights in helping overwhelmed clients create beautiful spaces—and will never turn down a warm chocolate chip cookie or Diet Dr Pepper.
With a gorgeous, show stopping marble and wood inlay floor, the main goal in this entry is to not compete and get out of its way! Here’s how we did it.
The black double doors add contrast and help frame the entry without pulling attention away from the floor. Meanwhile, the simpler console styling keeps the space feeling clean and open instead of cluttered.
Because the floor already has so much movement and detail, adding too much decor would have made the room feel busy really quickly. That’s something I think people often miss in design–Not every area needs multiple focal points.
Sometimes the most beautiful spaces come from letting one really strong feature lead the room while everything else supports it.
The mix of materials also helps warm up the entryway naturally. You see:
Together, those elements create a layered, modern rustic entryway that feels custom and welcoming without feeling overly trendy.
One of the biggest challenges in designing a new build is creating character without overfilling the space. This entryway shows that sometimes fewer, better design choices create the strongest impact.
As a result, the space feels custom, warm, and welcoming instead of cold or overly styled.
And honestly, when you have a floor this good… the best thing you can do is let it SHINE!
What do you think? What would you do with this floor in your home?
If your home feels fine but not finished, that’s usually where I come in.
You don’t need to start over—you just need the right pieces working together. Message me
