When this single dad of two girls moved in, the home was very traditional.
Think old-world Tuscan style with big, heavy, brown furniture.
He hired me because he wanted his home to reflect his family’s fun spirit. So, we moved toward bold, happy colors and interesting accents that felt more like the three people living there.
I love warm wood and older pieces, but this home needed some energy. The heavy furniture and brown tones weren’t giving us the feeling we wanted.
To change that, we brought color into the design and chose accents with personality. Instead of letting the old-world style guide every decision, we used this active family as our starting point.
That’s an important part of decorating. You can have a house full of furniture and still feel like none of it says much about you.
If that sounds familiar, think about how you want your home to feel before buying another piece. For this dad, the answer was happy, fun, and welcoming for his girls.
One of my favorite details was the art, hand-printed by a local artist to showcase his daughters.
Because it was created around his girls, it brought something personal into the home that we couldn’t get from a piece chosen just to fill a wall. Alongside the bold colors, that artwork helped make the design about his family.
I love including meaningful art in a room. It gives you something you enjoy looking at and a reason for it to be there.
By the end, the home felt much more connected to their active, energetic family. The happy colors, interesting accents, and personal artwork brought their fun spirit into the spaces they use every day.
As a Rockwall interior designer serving Dallas, that’s what I want for my clients: a home that feels comfortable and reflects the people who live there.
For this dad and his two girls, it was a bachelor pad no more.

We also custom-designed bedrooms for his girls around their favorite things. Since they split their time between two houses, we wanted each girl to have a space here that felt like her own.
So, their interests helped guide our choices. Those personal details mattered as much as making the rooms pretty—we wanted them to feel at home when they were with their dad.
Together with the hand-printed artwork showcasing his daughters, their bedrooms helped make this a home for all three of them.A Home Away From Home
