Summery, cool and bright is the name of the fashion game, and be prepared for the weather!
When planning my trip to Greece, I carefully selected a mix of high-quality items and trendy budget finds, hoping they would carry me through both spring and summer.
Here’s what I wish I had known before traveling to Greece:
One of the first things I discovered about Mykonos is that it is incredibly windy, and the wind can be quite cold, even in April.
Despite the pleasant temperatures, the wind made it feel much colder, significantly influencing my outfit choices.
What I wish I knew when I traveled to Greece:
There is no point to styling your hair in anyway other than “wind tolerant.”
Even though the temperature was what is was in Texas- mid 70’s, it felt a LOT colder with the wind.
If you don’t believe me, you can just look at the photos–there is hardly one without a hair blowing over my head or my dress flying up!
HAHA. I was fortunate to not have a wardrobe malfunction.
2. Riding on a scooter makes your hair and clothes smell like gas and makes your hair look crazy.
This was a price I was willing to pay, because riding around a Greek island by scooter = paradise.
This looks like a postcard, but it’s just one of the views.
Sigh.
The colors are unreal here.
Not sure what wind blown hair looks like? See below.
First Day Attire: Navy paper bag pants, white tank, denim jacket, Nike Court Legacy Sneakers, Ray Ban Aviators , Cross body bag (this is Haute Shore, but Amazon has a really similar one)
On my first day, I explored the old town, which involved a lot of walking on hilly, cobblestone streets. Comfortable shoes are a must!
I figured I could wear the tank if I ever got hot, but I never did.
If anything, I got cold!
Night: Same white tank, wide leg pants– love these pants because they are so cute and so comfortable!
The 2nd day, I wanted to dress a little warmer, so I opted for a light sweater hoodie. I attended a monastery tour, so I needed to cover my shoulders- Which means no sleeveless shirts or dresses.
2nd day: Khaki paper-bag pants, Teal short sleeve shirt, light sweater hoodie
Wait until you see this beach view!?
This outfit was super comfortable for exploring and kept me warm when it got cold
That night, I opted for a bow tie pink and red ikat dress (Value find! Under $20!) for dinner at Kastros in the Little Venice area of Mykonos Old Town.
I started just wearing the dress, but quickly added the denim jacket…and needed it the rest of the night.
This seems to be a theme.
On this day, I traveled by boat to Santorini, which was about a 2 hour ride on the “express boat”.
Once I got there, I opted for blue and white dress (Value find! Under $20!) to explore Santorini and have dinner overlooking the sunset.
Sigh.
Dreamy.
For the scooter ride around Santorini, and the boat ride back to Mykonos, I thought jeans would make the best travel clothes.
I paired with a cute flowy red and pink blouse, wide-leg jeans (under $30!), and comfortable espadrilles that were steady enough to walk up and down the stairs of the city.
BECAUSE
LOTS
‘O
STAIRS.
I had lunch sitting beside the ocean- like I could have put my feet in while I ate! This trip is FULL of pink me beauty!
One of the many surreal landmarks you see when exploring the island are OLD windmills.
I wore this navy striped dress (Value find! Under $50!) and white espadrilles to this gorgeous area of Mykonos.
Yep.
It’s still windy.
There are 4 windmills standing in a row in this area, and they are SO cool and authentic.
I have to say, I did see some Influencers-in-training around these parts. hahah. Lots of photo opportunities around these landmarks.
Really, I love traveling, and feel so fortunate to be able to see other parts of the world. The people of Greece were SO lovely, so cheerful and accommodating and welcoming.
Everyone was so fascinated that I came allllll the way from Texas. But everyone seemed to know about Texas. “How long did that take?!” they would ask in amazement. And it was quite the travel day for sure.
But worth it. These islands are dreamy- in a world that so rarely lives up to the hype- they completely did!
And I always appreciate coming home to the US. What a gift to live in such a great country.
Final tip, I would recommend bringing your sunglasses, at least in April, it was very sunny.
Packing the right mix of high-end and budget-friendly items, along with being prepared for the wind, made my trip to Greece much more enjoyable.
Keep these tips in mind to make the most of your Greek adventure!
