Everyone talks about like it’s just a shopping trip.
It is not.
Round Top is part treasure hunt, part endurance sport, and part social experiment where stylish people willingly walk miles in dirt for the possibility of finding the perfect antique mirror. And somehow? It’s still worth it.
If you’re heading to Round Top for the first time or even the fifth here’s what actually matters.

People ask me all the time, “Where are your favorite places to shop?”
And while I love supporting local stores, I still head to Round Top twice a year for the big one: Round Top Antiques Week in Texas.
If you have never been, here is the honest version. Round Top is amazing, a little confusing, very spread out, and completely worth it. Also, this is not one of those tidy shopping trips where you stroll in, grab a cute vase, and head home by lunch. This is a commit-to-the-cause kind of outing.
Round Top Antiques Week is not limited to one building or even one exact schedule. In fact, the Round Top Area Chamber notes there is no single governing body for show dates, and each venue sets its own calendar. For 2026, the chamber lists the spring show as March 12–29 and the fall show as October 15–November 1, while major venues like the Original Round Top Antiques Fair and Blue Hills operate on their own overlapping dates. (Round Top Area Chamber of Commerce)
That is why people get confused. They hear “Round Top Antiques Week,” but the shopping often stretches well beyond a single week.
The Round Top antique show Texas shoppers talk about is really a long stretch of venues in and around Round Top, not one neat, centralized destination. The Original Round Top Antiques Fair describes the event as shopping along 11 miles of scenic Texas highway, while other Round Top guides describe the wider antiques-and-design stretch as a multi-week regional event. (Round Top Antiques)
Translation: wear good shoes, charge your phone, and do not assume you can “see it all in an afternoon.” You cannot. Not even if you drink heroic amounts of coffee.
If you want the practical answer, stay outside of town unless you book very early.
Round Top is tiny. Census Reporter shows a population of about 105, which explains why rooms go fast during show season. (Census Reporter)
Because of that, many shoppers stay in nearby towns like Brenham or La Grange and drive in each day. That gives you more hotel options and usually saves money. On the other hand, if you want to stay closer to the action, in-town inns and B&Bs can be worth the premium simply because less driving means more shopping time.
That, my friends, is girl math I fully support.
As for the actual shopping, Round Top Texas shopping has range. You can find high-end European antiques, rustic furniture, vintage accessories, art, lighting, architectural salvage, and one-off pieces that make a room feel finished instead of factory-issued. The Original Round Top Antiques Fair highlights categories like textiles, art, Continental furniture, and accessories, and major guides describe the broader event as a mix of antiques, home goods, and design finds. In other words, your budget may enter with confidence and leave in a mild panic.
If you want to shop Round Top well, go in with a plan.
First, bring measurements and photos of your space. Next, do a quick pass through a booth before making decisions. Then, ask politely if there is flexibility on pricing. If the answer is no, circle back later. Sometimes the end of the day brings out a seller’s generous side.
Also, take photos when you are unsure. A quick phone photo can help you decide whether the piece is actually brilliant or whether the Texas sun has temporarily scrambled your judgment.

Most importantly, remember this rule: if you buy it, you have to get it home.
That sounds obvious until your back seat is full, your trunk is full, and you are suddenly evaluating whether a lamp can ride shotgun.
Bring cash.
Seriously. Bring cash.
Even when vendors take cards, service can be spotty, and the event covers a broad rural area. The Round Top Area Chamber and venue operators emphasize checking venue details directly, which is also a good reminder that logistics vary from place to place. (Round Top Area Chamber of Commerce)
Also bring:
Basically, do not shop like you are going to Target. Shop like you might accidentally buy a 200-pound cabinet.
A few longtime favorites include Royers Pie Haven and Royers Round Top Cafe for food, Townsend Provisions for gifts and vintage boots, and Blue Hills for a major shopping stop during show season. Blue Hills is one of the better-known venues and is listed by the Original Round Top Antiques Fair as part of its show footprint. (Round Top Antiques)
The best part of this Texas antique show is that there is no single right way to do it.
You can make a list and plan every stop. Or you can drive until something catches your eye, park, and start shopping. Either way works. Round Top rewards people who come ready to hunt, ready to pivot, and ready to leave with at least one thing they absolutely did not plan to buy.
Need help figuring out how to use your Round Top finds in your home? That is the fun part. I can help you turn those treasures into a space that feels layered, personal, and beautifully pulled together.
