Ah, Farmhouse Decor.
It is THE decorating style that took over the 2000s. It made Chip and Joanna Gaines household names, and put my college town of Waco, Texas on the map.
Don’t believe me? Just ask your neighbor. Men that cannot tell you what a sconce is can use the word “shiplap” correctly in a sentence.
And, very likely, many of us have elements – or entire rooms- dedicated to the trend.
But what now? Is farmhouse decor still in style?
It is 2024.
Is farmhouse decor still popular?
Or, Is this trend from the early 2000’s of farmhouse decor going out of style?
And what do we do with the existing decor we have to update it to make it work now?
The good news is, farmhouse decor is not completely out of style.
The basis of the farmhouse decor is a comfortable living space, neutral colors, and using outdoor elements indoors.
Of course, just like any decorating style, there are parts of the trend that are outdated, and more classic elements of the style that will stay in vogue.
So, let’s examine which parts of Farmhouse decor we should keep, and which Farmhouse decor elements scream “Magnolia before they had Silos“.
Architectural Digest says some elements will never go out of style.

I think some items should be used sparingly, because these elements have the potential to date a home. (Rewind here to when I recommended them)
