You might hesitate, as this client did, at the suggestion of painting the ceiling black. But just look how it provides the needed drama for these wood beams and Moravian Star pendant lights!
(Don’t overlook the bicycle sofa table–doesn’t it just make your heart happy?)
The amazing concrete fireplace could have been overbearing even in this large room, but we brought it back to human scale with the addition of the distressed columns that flank the mantle and the club chair grouping at the hearth.

A storage piece is always useful to hold movies and board games, as well as to corral clutter (always a plus)!
The large scale weathered mirror helps transition between the tall ceilings and the cozy gathering spaces and makes a major statement.
You have to love the steer pillow; it is Texas, after all.
Tabletops cry for groupings of items of varying sizes, heights, and textures: the rough, pierced pottery with its chippy paint, the clear glass jar with the sun shining through, the interesting patterns in the book jackets.
And of course, plants tall and small that bring nature indoors!
