Cabinet tops is something that stresses most people out. If your kitchen cabinets do not reach to the top of the room, then there is an awkward space that can look unfinished.
Let me cut to the chase.
Do not, under any circumstance, stretch out fake ivy along the cabinets.
Like, If Ryan Reynolds is doing a scavenger hunt and the only house left on his list is one with strewn out greenery, not even then.
Why this harsh bias towards the green?
Many reasons. I will just give you 3.
Dust Trap

Overdone.
Does that help?
So, if I can’t use fake ivy, what can I use?
Use the same quality items you would put in a book case in your living room. Your kitchen is a major room in the house. Usually the room that most people will hang around in. People congregate towards food, right? Is this just me?
Cake, cupcakes, queso, ice cream. These all are kept in one place, and that’s the place I wanna be.
So it makes sense that you put stuff you LOVE in the kitchen, whether its up high or eye level.
Cabinets before…
When I decorated these cabinet tops, I knew a couple things.
The client wanted a mix of glam and rustic
She didn’t like the existing kitchen and wanted to decorate the tops until she could get some new cabinets or paint the existing ones
She was using gray and white
I need things that were going to bring a lot of height to draw the eye away from the cabinets to the cabinet tops.
I put a variety of items in each section, all in varying heights.
What kind of items?
Crates
Baskets
Bottles
Vases
Plates
Candles
Some of these were items she had, and some were bought new for this purpose.
You may notice what you don’t see?
Ivy.
Do you think decorating cabinet tops helps to draw the eye up?
Are yours decorated?
