Do you cringe when you see the forecasted trends in home decor reports? (“Oh no! My home is out of date now!”) Don’t do it! Your home style should be a reflection of the items you love, your family’s lifestyle, and your own history. Remember, the experts say things like, “Millennial pink is having a moment…” So if you like it, embrace it and enjoy the moment. If not–well, it won’t be around forever. Move on.
Having said that, it’s always instructive to have a peep at what’s commanding attention at the design shows, because what happens in the industry translates to what you will beseeing in the stores in the days ahead. So! Take a look at some forecasts for 2018 to see what catches your eye. Maybe you are already incorporating some of these trends. Or maybe you would like to in the future. (And remember, I can help you with that!)
Trend #1. Vivid Colors
Looks like there will be opportunity to play with some intense color in your home. Forecasters are seeing spirited blues, greens, purples, and even fuschia. Oh, and also–fringe trim! (How about these soft goods we picked for my client’s built-in banquette? She loved them–and they’re sure on the mark for 2018 trends and beyond!)
Speaking of vivid hues, isn’t this green wall a happy day in the making? It provided just the backdrop needed for the snappy graphics we hung.
Trend #2 Typography
Typography is another strong 2018 trend. (This Airbnb project turned out so bright and welcoming, don’t you think?)
Trend #3 Geometrics
Been seeing geometrics in your favorite decor store? Well, you’ll be seeing more of them, according to the design forecasters. Geometrics in wallpaper, fabrics and all manner of home goods continue to be popular in our homes. Just see what a punch this geometric rug brought to THIS Airbnb interior I did!
Not to mention the graphic design on the bed pillows!
Trend #4 Natural Elements
Stone and wood elements remain strong in 2018 decor predictions. We are all so tech-driven these days, is it any wonder that we feel such a need for organic materials in our homes? This stone accent wall we had installed in my client’s home is such a warm and earthy feature. Textures and materials like these remind us that we are connected to this planet and are not just digital creatures! Can I get an amen?
